Fedor Emelianenko’s lesser-known brother, Alexander has notched up a win in the cage just as impressive as Fedor’s recent win over Frank Mir. Russian Cagefighting Championship [RCC 2], held in Yekaterinburg, Russia saw Emelianenko scalp Gabriel Gonzaga in the second round to notch up his fourth pro win on the trot.
The thrilling display of punches and knees was enough to see the Brazilian succumb to the Russian heavyweight star. Gonzaga attempted to cover up against an onslaught of strikes from Emelianenko, but the powerful strikes seemed to rock him regardless.
As he staggered backwards, Alexander took the invitation and continued to bash crash and knee his way to victory, the 38-year-old Brazillian crashing to the canvas. It has been a dramatic fall from grace, for the once great, Gonzaga.
The Brazilian has previously taken down greats such as Cro Cop in his fighting career that has spanned over 15 years. However, he has now lost 5 of his last 6 bouts. His record stands at 17 and 12 now and he has failed to impress at the top level in a number of years.
Having retired from UFC there is now mounting pressure for the heavyweight to hang up the gloves for good. Emelianenko has jailed in 2015 having been found guilty of sexually assaulting and stealing the passport of former housekeeper Polina Stepanova.
Despite pleading not guilty, claiming the sex was consensual, prosecutors were able to convict him and he was sentenced to 4-and-a-half years in prison, as well as a fine. After being declined an appeal, Emelianenko was released on parole in October 2016. He made a return to the cage in 2017.
His record now stands at 27 and 7 and doesn’t look like slowing down at this point despite his three-year absence from the sport and age of 36 years. Watch the stunning finish to the RCC fight on the player below
